LOCKHEED MARTIN PRODUCT SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTENS DEVELOPMENT TIME OF DISTRIBUTED AGENT SYSTEMS

CHERRY HILL, NJ, August 3, 2009—Lockheed Martin [NYSE:LMT] Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) has released a software library that enables software engineers to quickly develop robust and reliable distributed agent systems.

Lockheed Martin's Extensible Mobile Agent Architecture (EMAA) differs from other open source and commercial agent products because it operates efficiently in any environment and on any network—from service-rich, bandwidth-friendly enterprise networks to the transient, limited-resource edge networks. Mobile agents excel in poor network conditions because they can migrate across machines and intelligently process data close to the information source, only returning data that is relevant to a task. Agents also operate efficiency across disparate legacy systems.

Originally designed as an in-house development capability for very complex and demanding military applications, EMAA has been continually updated and validated on more than 25 Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin programs. EMAA most recently transitioned as part of a larger command and control program to the U.S. Navy.

"EMAA's chief advantages are its rapid system prototyping ability and its superior software reuse, both of which significantly shorten development time," said Michael Orr, EMMA product team lead. "Our user community has seen a six- to 12-month time savings across projects which used EMAA."

EMAA covers all of the essentials for the software developer, from agent system construction through execution and deployment. All aspects of EMAA are fully configurable with default implementations provided in most cases.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 146,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2008 sales of $42.7 billion.
